Session Description:
Subduction zones are the primary sites of chemical exchange between the Earths’s surface and interior. The release of fluids and silicate melts from the down-going slab results in mass transfer, element cycling, metasomatism, crustal melting, and can trigger earthquakes. Recent advances have lead to novel isotopic and geochemical proxies to fingerprint the origin of subduction-derived fluids and melts both in exhumed subduction materials and arc magmas. We invite submissions offering new insights into the processes governing the production and evolution of fluids and melts from the subducting slab, especially those employing new applications of geochemical and isotopic proxies. Contributions are sought from all relevant studies involving subduction fluids including, but not limited to, field investigations, stable isotope geochemistry, trace element geochemistry, mineralogy, experiments, and both numerical and thermodynamic modelling.
