Session Description:
Intelligent Systems for Geosciences (IS-GEO) represent an emerging community of interdisciplinary researchers producing fundamental new capabilities for understanding Earth systems. Advances by artificial intelligence researchers, including knowledge representation, information integration, machine learning, robotics, adaptive sensors, and intelligent interfaces pose novel opportunities to accelerate advances and transform geoscience research.
This session invites researchers from geosciences and information systems to discuss how to tackle problems in heterogeneous data integration and visualization (e.g., hand-made sketches, aerial imagery, field-data repositories), ontological reasoning with scientific metadata and mathematical models (e.g., representing uncertainty, simulation predictions, evolving theories). And, asks participants to consider potential uses for cyberinfrastructures and intelligent assistants that make scientists more efficient and facilitate information sharing, collaborative workflow design and management to support data analytics, and sophisticated machine learning techniques to analyze geosciences data. Innovative IS-GEO applications will help researchers overcome common challenges while will redefining the frontiers of discovery across fields and disciplines.
