Session Description:
Climate extremes, variability, and change and how these impact hydrological and ecological systems pose serious risks to society, risks that require critical decisions be made now to avoid future system failures. Scientists often see their responsibility as understanding what future changes will be, and then decision makers are responsible for using this information to take action. Unfortunately, rarely is it that simple. Too often there is a disconnect between the information generated by scientists and decisions being made. This session will explore how these gaps can be overcome. What do bridges between climate science and applications look like? How are these bridges built? We seek experiences that reveal the nature of actionable science and demonstrate ways knowledge can be co-produced to address climate change. We especially welcome concrete examples of processes or products that demonstrate better practices, or practices to avoid, when including climate science in decision making.
