Collisionless Shock Waves in Astrophysical Plasmas Posters

Session Description:
Collisionless shocks are ubiquitous in heliospheric and astrophysical plasmas, producing a wide range of phenomena from microscopic energy dissipation to macroscopic foreshocks filled with suprathermal-to-ultrarelativistic shock accelerated particles. There still are several open questions about these phenomena despite the significant advances made with recent in situ observations by, e.g., Cassini, Cluster, MMS, Wind, STEREO, and THEMIS. This session is meant to be general so as to include all topics that are specific to collisionless shock waves in astrophysical plasmas, including but not limited to interplanetary shocks and planetary bow shocks. Therefore, we invite presentations that focus on shock-related processes from both theory/simulation and observational work. A concerted effort to fully understand the fundamental physics of collisionless shocks will increase the science return of future missions like Solar Probe Plus and Solar Orbiter and can aid missions under study, e.g., THOR and/or IMAP.
