MR33B:
Evolving Fault Zone Properties: From Coseismic Weakening and Damage Through Postseismic Fracture Healing III Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 22657

Session Description:
Understanding changes in fault-zone properties throughout the seismic cycle, over shorter characteristic times and at the appropriate length scales, are necessary to characterize earthquake occurrence and co-seismic effects. Inter-seismic periods allow for kinetically sluggish processes to occur that might also have important feedbacks on co-seismic slip behavior. We welcome contributions that explore processes and phenomena that alter the mechanical, chemical and/or hydrologic properties of seismic and aseismic faults. Interesting studies may originate from rock-deformation experiments, geologic and seismological observations, and numerical modeling.
