Session Description:
Now that the Cassini mission at Saturn has drawn to a close, the examination of the unique, geysering world of Enceladus moves into a new era. The prospects of future exploratory missions, capable of sampling the moon’s large, ocean-derived plume in search of signatures of life and/or habitability, demand a new, multi-disciplinary approach.
This session will bring together those studying relevant topics in planetary geophysics, volcanology, microbiology, oceanography, biogeochemistry, astrobiology, hydrothermal systems, seafloor geology and geophysics, and origin of life, with the ultimate goal of synthesizing the currently available information on Enceladus and developing a framework for describing the moon’s biological potential.
As in years past, we will focus on the most recent observational, theoretical and modeling efforts and encourage submissions in the above-mentioned areas that are specific to our findings on Enceladus. Presentations on concepts for future missions back to Enceladus are also encouraged.
