A21G:
Multisensor, Model, and Measurement Synergy: Regional to Global Aerosol Change Detection, and Observed Changes II Posters

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 22891

Session Description:
Aerosols perturb Earth’s radiation budget and hydrological cycles, impact climate and possibly weather, influence air quality, visibility, and health. Natural and anthropogenic processes, such as changing land-cover, wildfire occurrence, agricultural practice, and fuel consumption, alter aerosol concentration and composition.  In places, efforts aim at reducing aerosol loading, improving air quality, and minimizing climate effects.

Society cares about our ability to detect and quantify changes in aerosol amount and type, to assess the evolution of sources and exposures, and of mitigation-strategy effectiveness.  A diversity of remote-sensing and in situ measurement techniques is required, plus methods for integrating these with models, which can link changes to causes and effects. In our 13th year, this AGU session tracks the advancement of these efforts. This year, we welcome presentations discussing measurement techniques that quantify these changes, and describe how measurements in synergy with models that can characterize regional-to-global changes – past, present, and/or future.
