Beach- and Foredune- Ridge Systems: Architecture, Formation Mechanisms, and Use as Sedimentary Archives II Posters
Session ID#: 22994
Session Description:
Progradational beach- and foredune- ridge systems hold the potential to serve as archives of changes in sea level, storm frequency, climate, source and rate of sediment supply, as well as the coastal system’s response to these changes across timescales. Fundamental to the utility of these systems as recorders of paleoenvironmental change is an understanding of the formation mechanisms responsible for the morphologic characteristics and the internal architecture, notably in relation to variability in geological and coastal settings, climatic zones, sediment sources and types, and sea-level histories. We invite presentations that cover the range from short-term process studies – including both modeling and observational – of the formation of individual ridges, up to system-scale studies of progradational barriers, cheniers, and strand-, beach-, and foredune- ridge plains, as well as the records of allo- and auto- genic changes they preserve.
