High-Resolution Coupled and Uncoupled Atmosphere-Ice-Ocean Modeling for Short-Range to Seasonal Forecasting

Session Description:
Increasingly, high resolution coupled atmosphere-ice-ocean models are being used to predict the environment on time scales from days to seasons.  The performance of these coupled system often are compared to uncoupled atmosphere, ice and ocean models, as there are tradeoffs between, for example, system complexity and computational cost. Coupling these component systems together presents unique challenges for data assimilation, ensemble design, forecast error attribution, and bias mitigation.  This session invites researchers and forecasters to present results from coupled and uncoupled reforecasts, reanalyses and forecasts, and discuss issues with these emerging high resolution systems.
