PP51A:
Glacial-Interglacial Climate: Similarities and Differences Between Past and Future II Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 24036
Session Description:
The last interglacial was warm, with high atmospheric CO2 (~280 ppmv) and high sea levels. Some regions on Earth experienced severe droughts and others experienced greater storminess. The changes in climate throughout this period provide important information on the Earth's climate sensitivity and in some respects may serve as an analog to future warming. Paleoclimate archives provide records of the effects of climate forcings on global and local temperature and precipitation, and climate models can be used to relate mechanisms and observations. Along with the high temperatures and CO2, the orbital forcing changed significantly during the last interglacial, which affected seasonality and climate variability. We invite submissions of observational studies (e.g. marine, terrestrial, ice cores) and modeling of the last interglacial, addressing all relevant parameters (e.g. sea level, temperature, precipitation), and particularly encourage those that combine observations and models.
