Links between Arctic Cloud Processes and their Environment

Session Description:
By affecting radiative energy flows, clouds exert a significant influence on Arctic sea and land ice, ocean biogeochemistry, and large-scale atmospheric dynamics. Despite many advances in understanding Arctic clouds over recent years, the sensitivity of these clouds to environmental factors (e.g., dynamic processes, aerosol inputs, etc.) remains a leading uncertainty in projections of Arctic climate change. A detailed process-level understanding of Arctic cloud processes and their interactions with their environment is needed to improve Arctic climate projections. In this session, we invite studies that link Arctic clouds and their variability with the full range of relevant meteorological and microphysical processes as well as discuss interactions with the surface (land, ocean, or ice). We welcome contributions based on a variety of methodologies, including numerical models and satellite, ground-based, and field campaign measurements.
