C33A:
Estimating the Impacts of Terrestrial Cryospheric Change on Physical, Social, and Economic Systems I Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 24194
Session Description:
Runoff from mountain glaciers and seasonal snowpacks plays an important role in the global sea level budget and is linked to regional socio-economic issues including water supply and ecosystem function. Climate change will affect the timing and distribution of runoff, necessitating more accurate mass-balance modeling to inform adaptive water management strategies. Additionally, improved forecasts of the impacts of these changes on water quantity/quality, human welfare, and the economy will help prioritize climate and water management policy. Our session will feature research that synthesizes multiple data types and/or integrates data and models in order to improve our understanding of snow and glacier mass balances. It will also highlight interdisciplinary studies of the downstream impacts of terrestrial cryospheric change on local communities and on the global water cycle.
