Session Description:
Signatories to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) have committed to regularly producing a Greenhouse Gas Inventory that follows the guidance provided by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. These Inventory reports provide estimates of anthropogenic GHG emissions and sinks generally beginning in 1990 and going through the present. These Inventory reports are essential for countries to both understand the trends in GHG emissions and carbon sinks as well as progress in achieving emission reductions. This session focuses on scientific advancements in support of monitoring and reporting anthropogenic emissions and removals across land use categories to ensure transparency, consistency, completeness, comparability, and accuracy in annual submissions to the UNFCCC.
