Quantifying Anthropogenic Activities with Isotopes Posters

Session Description:
Human actions now have a first-order influence on the composition of the atmosphere, ecosystems, and biogeochemical cycling of carbon (C), nitrogen (N) and water, with negative impacts on societies. Stable and radioactive isotope analyses provide a multitude of unique research applications for understanding the interactions between humans and the natural world and developing and evaluating strategies for a sustainable future. We encourage submissions that quantify past and present impacts of human activities on the Earth System using stable and radioactive isotopes, such as on 14CO2 to quantify fossil C usage, 15N to understand sources of N pollution, etc. We invite research using a wide range of isotopes (incl. C, N, O, H, Ca, S, Si), exploiting a multitude of matrices (e.g. air, plant biomass, soils, aerosol, ice, fresh and sea waters) and molecular markers, and studying natural and engineered (e.g. urban, agricultural) systems.
