Energy Dissipation and Particle Energization in Turbulent Plasmas Posters

Session Description:
Hot magnetized plasma is influential throughout the universe, and the heliosphere affords the opportunity to directly study its turbulent dynamics. Heating and particle acceleration can be caused by a turbulent cascade, leading to dissipation at kinetic scales. It is therefore crucial to understand physical mechanisms related to cascade, energy dissipation and particle energization. This session will focus on such processes at kinetic scales from the point of view of theory, numerical simulations, and observations. This session addresses fundamental questions regarding heating, acceleration mechanisms, channels of energy transfer, and energy partition among particle species. How do such processes differ in environments such as the pristine solar wind, shocks, magnetosheath and flow interaction regions? Theoretical and observational studies relating to spacecraft measurements in near-Earth space (Cluster, THEMIS and MMS), planetary magnetospheres (Cassini, MAVEN), the upcoming Solar Probe and Solar Orbiter missions, and mission concepts (THOR) are welcome.
