Ecohydrological Insights From Spatial Patterns

Session Description:
Much of what we know about ecohydrological processes derives from observing temporal patterns at the scale of the plant, plot or catchment. However, examining spatial patterns provides an alternate means of inferring processes because spatial variation is rarely a function of random error, but instead a product of site characteristics. By considering space, time and the interaction of the two, we can significantly advance our understanding of the processes that control the movement of water, as well as their generality. The objective of this session is to gather research that applies spatial analyses to connect pattern to process. This session invites, but is not limited to, research using environmental proxies (e.g., stable isotopes of water), monitoring networks (e.g., flux networks), multi-scale study designs (e.g., nested catchments), remotely sensed measurements (e.g., vegetation indices), or simulations (e.g., spatially explicit modeling). We encourage exploratory analyses that yield new perspectives in ecohydrology.
