Progress in Quantifying Impacts of Land Use and Land Cover Change in a Changing Climate Using Earth System Models II Posters
Session ID#: 25194
Session Description:
To investigate the role of Land Use and Land Cover Change (LULCC) in the Earth system, an increasing number of Earth system models (ESMs) have incorporated modules to parameterize LULCC. Such modules represent a broad range of LULCC related processes, such as the transitions between natural and managed land use types, urbanization, and ecosystem dynamics following disturbances. As a result, the ESMs have become effective tools to assess LULCC impacts in a changing climate. We seek contributions on, but not limited to, quantifying the effects of LULCC on water/carbon/nutrient cycling, water-food-energy nexus, ecosystem function, and regional and global climate through applying ESMs or its components at local, regional, and global scales. Studies on ESM development as well as validation and verification, including efforts on developing individual modules, coupling among modules to better understand feedbacks, developing datasets to inform and validate models, as well as model-data integration approaches, are also welcome.
