Transport Properties in Earth’s Mantle and Core

Session Description:
To understand the structure, composition, and dynamics of the deep Earth, high-pressure and high-temperature experimental measurements and theoretical calculations of the transport properties of geomaterials such as silicates, oxides, and metal alloys are essential. This session aims to highlight the recent advances in quantifying transport properties (in particular, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, diffusion, and viscosity) of solids, liquids, and partial melts at pressure, temperature, and chemistry relevant to the Earth’s mantle and core. Interpretation emphasizing the time- and space-evolution of our planet is especially welcome. We encourage submissions from experimental, computational, and theoretical mineral physics, as well as studies adopting a multi-disciplinary approach that combines mineral physics with geochemistry, geophysics, and/or geodynamics.
