Climate Science Special Report: An Assessment of the Science Focusing on the United States

Session Description:
The Climate Science Special Report (CSSR) has been developed under the guidance of the U.S. Global Change Research Program to report on the state-of-science relating to climate change and its physical impacts. This assessment provides a comprehensive assessment of the science underlying the changes occurring in the Earth’s climate system, with a special focus on the United States. The CSSR has undergone extensive reviews by the National Academy of Sciences, government agencies, scientific peers, and the public. CSSR serves several purposes: 1) providing an updated detailed analysis of how climate change is affecting weather and climate across the United States, 2) providing the basis for the climate science discussion in the Fourth National Climate Assessment (NCA4), and 3) providing foundational information and projections for climate change, including extremes, to improve consistency in U.S. sectoral, regional, and resilience analyses. This session will summarize the key findings from this assessment.
