Landslide Geophysics: Advances in the Characterization and Monitoring of Unstable Slopes Posters

Session Description:
Recent advances in geophysical techniques are allowing increasingly detailed studies of landslide structures and processes. In combination with other sensors, geophysical techniques are beginning to be integrated into early-warning systems, reducing landslide risks for vulnerable communities, and are employed to inform pro-active remediation of slope instabilities by elucidating landslide hydrology. This is particularly important, as hydrological processes in unstable slopes are known to be highly variable both spatially and temporarily. Nevertheless, applying geophysical methods to understanding landslides still poses many difficulties, ranging from accounting for the movements of sensors to capturing highly dynamic near surface processes in heterogeneous ground conditions. For this session, we invite observational and modelling studies that demonstrate novel geophysical approaches to studying landslides. In particular, we encourage submissions on landslide characterization and monitoring, linking of geophysical data and geomechanical modelling, and the integration of geophysical techniques into early-warning systems.
