Induced Seismicity in the United States and Canada

Session Description:
The increase of man-made earthquakes in the United States and Canada has generated immense research effort to understand and mitigate seismicity caused by fluid movement in the Earth’s brittle crust. Waste water disposal and hydraulic fracturing appear to be the main two causes of induced seismicity in the United States and Canada. However, physical process understanding of fluid induced seismicity at multiple scales and in various regions will contribute to understanding and mitigation of seismicity. We invite all contributions related to induced and triggered seismicity. Case studies, geomechanics, numerical modelling, laboratory experiments, ground motion prediction, statistical and quantitative methods and seismic hazard assessment and mitigation strategies are welcome. Studies looking at seismicity in the United States and Canada are of special interest.
