The Chicxulub Impact and the Cretaceous/Paleogene Boundary: New Findings and Perspectives II Posters

Session Description:
This session aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for presentation and discussion of recent studies on the Chicxulub impact, the Cretaceous/Paleogene (K/Pg) boundary and the End-Cretaceous mass extinction. We invite presentations on the IODP-ICDP Chicxulub Expedition 364, which drilled a borehole on the peak-ring in the marine central crater sector. Drilling recovered cores from the Paleogene carbonates, the carbonates/breccias contact, impact breccias, melt, fractured basement rocks and dykes. Project objectives include investigating the nature and formation of the peak-ring, cratering processes, nature/composition of impact breccias, melt and peak-ring rocks, hydrothermal activity, petrophysics, post-impact sequence stratigraphy, life recovery in target zone, climatic and environmental effects, Cretaceous-Paleogene climate, hyperthermals and deep biosphere. We also welcome presentations on terrestrial and extraterrestrial impact crater studies, structure, and stratigraphy, K/Pg and mass extinctions, impact effects, modeling, impact ejecta, Gulf of Mexico/Caribbean K/Pg deposits, global K/Pg boundary sections, Cretaceous-Paleogene paleoclimate reconstructions and paleontological records.
