Session ID#: 25723
Session Description:
We live in a time when science cannot operate outside of political or social spheres. Given recent political decision-making, a new level of concern about science and its role in society is being raised among scientists. Simultaneously, acute differences in the participation and representation of minorities in academia, pose urgent challenges for the geoscience community. We invite AGU members to share action-based strategies for engaging with society and/or advocating for equity and inclusion. Topics may include: programs that aim to increase diversity, social media or community organizing for political engagement, advances in science-community partnerships, and environmental and social justice. We encourage talks that exemplify specific projects and outreach activities that typify redefining scientists’ place in shaping global and local contemporary challenges. Pop-up proposal selections will be based on ensuring a diverse range of topics, backgrounds, and career levels.
