Advances in Novel Methods and Technologies for Emission Monitoring and Exposure Assessment to Hazardous Air Pollutants II Posters

Session Description:
Technological advancements of the past decade offer great promise for emissions quantification and air quality applications. Modern optical remote sensing technologies, low-cost sensor networks, research mass-balance methods and tracer release techniques are being routinely used in emissions monitoring and exposure evaluation studies. These technologies have matured to enable near real-time emissions monitoring and exposure assessment to hazardous air pollutants (HAP). Emerging technologies such as small sensors also allow for HAP monitoring with unprecedented temporal- and spatial resolution. These approaches therefore offer the promise of monitoring emissions from industrial facilities and study their effects on neighborhoods adjacent to such facilities. Furthermore, more accurate information on site-specific emissions can better explain discrepancies between observations and bottom-up estimates of emission inventories. Ultimately these data can inform effective policy decisions. This session solicits observational, technical and theoretical contributions that provide insights into the application of novel and emerging methods, emissions quantification and exposure evaluations.
