Advances in Bio-geomagnetism

Session Description:
We solicit contributions on all research aspects of bio-geomagnetism, from the study of extant organisms in modern environments to investigations of fossils as well as bio-evolution. Examples include the characterization of magnetotactic bacteria, biomineralization mediated by Fe(III) reducing and Fe(II) oxidizing microorganisms, biogeochemical cycling of iron, origin and evolution of magnetotaxis, magnetization of biogenic magnetic minerals in sediments, detection of magnetofossils at critical transitions in the geological past, e.g., polarity transitions; magnetoreception and magnetic navigation by animals (e.g. birds, bats, and fishes); long-term correlation of deep-time geological and paleomagnetic records etc.. Experimental investigation and theoretical simulation of the influence of changing (geo)magnetic fields on representative organisms and the biosphere as a whole (and through associated atmospheric and cosmic radiation variations) are also solicited.
