GC13I:
Use of Earth Observations in Mitigating Major Environmental Challenges in Africa II Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 26029
Session Description:
Severe droughts and floods across Africa have ruined harvests, livelihoods, and have fueled food insecurity; increasing the complexity of resource allocation and other environmental decision making in the African continent. This session focuses on basic and applied research efforts, including capacity building, in the African continent that incorporate Earth observations to generate tools, products, and services, to support the environmental decision making by governmental institutions, non-governmental agencies, and the general public. The major challenges facing the region are particularly acute in food security and agriculture, water resources management, disaster risk reduction, and rapidly changing land use and ecosystems. Submissions are welcome from researchers and practitioners focusing on addressing these societal challenges for the African continent.
