New Insights into the Earth's Core II Posters

Session Description:
The history of Earth’s core remains debated and poorly constrained even as new experiments and observations have contributed to our understanding of the thermal state of outer core and the nucleation of the inner core. Scenarios for the operation and history of the dynamo are challenged by evidence of a stable stratified layer at the outer core’s upper boundary, a high value of thermal conductivity, and the presence of an early magnetic field. In the inner core, seismic observations reveal complex lateral and vertical structure at a broad spectrum of spatial scales, with unknown links to the history of its crystallization, melting, and deformation. We hope this session will bring together a wide range of disciplines, including geodynamic modeling, high-pressure experiments, and seismic observations with the aim of a better understanding Earth’s core.
