Linking Research, Education, and Public Engagement in Geoscience: Leadership and Strategic Partnerships
Session ID#: 26425
Session Description:
The geosciences are highly interdisciplinary and address global challenges, including climate change and geohealth. Exciting contexts and opportunities exist to bring academics, students, subject specialists and policy makers together to collaboratively advance the impact of science. In order for complex collaborative efforts to be effective, it is important to explore and adopt synergistic approaches to research, education and public engagement. Given their different priorities, synergistic approaches are crucial to connect the roles and communities in geoscience research, outreach and education. In this session, we investigate the opportunities and challenges, as well as the success stories, in leading interdisciplinary strategic partnerships to advance the impact of geosciences. We focus on how data science and new technologies may play a critical and unifying role in the research-education-outreach synergy for improving general public geoliteracy and fostering interdisciplinary research and education.
