Detrital Records of Climate-Driven Changes in Erosion, Sediment Flux, and Deposition from Source to Sink III Posters

Session Description:
Detrital sediments provide key resources for understanding effects of external forcings (climate, tectonism) on the evolution of sedimentary systems through space and time. Geochemical proxies, empirical models of modern systems, and coupled erosional-depositional simulations make specific predictions about magnitudes and timescales of changes that may occur in source-to-sink sediment transfer in response to perturbation of up-system boundary conditions (uplift, temperature, precipitation). However, non-uniqueness and lack of correlation of empirical data to hypothesized first-order external controls often inhibits evaluation of various source-to-sink depositional models. We solicit research that uses detrital records to evaluate the role of changing climate on perturbations within sediment routing systems, over short and/or long timescales, to improve our understanding of the effects of specific external (up-system) drivers on sedimentary systems. Relevant topics may include signal propagation, detrital provenance analysis, thermochronology, mass balance, geochemical proxies, and grain size analysis, in terrestrial or marine archives.
