Water Quality Impacts of Extreme Hydrometeorological Events: Social, Ecological, and Climate Change Implications I Posters

Session Description:
Extreme hydro-meteorological events often trigger loadings of nutrients, sediments, and other contaminants at concentrations hazardous to communities and ecosystems. Moreover, many studies have projected significant changes in extreme hydro-meteorological events over the course of this century. Given the social and ecological consequences of poor water quality, there is an immediate need to investigate the observed and projected impacts of extreme events on water quality, as well as their associated social and ecological implications. This session welcomes research on water quality impacts to individual surface water bodies, river basins, or larger regions. We especially encourage research regarding (i) effects of extreme events on water quality hazards, (ii) uncertainties in modeling chains that relate extreme events with water quality impacts, (iii) modeling complex socio-ecological systems that account for adaptations to water quality changes, and (iv) management plans that use multiple projected climate datasets to consider the uncertainty of plausible future hydrologic regimes.
