EP31A:
Changing the Channel: Fluvial System Response to Climate and Land Use Change II Posters
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 26718
Session Description:
Climate and land-use set the upstream water and sediment supply boundary conditions for fluvial systems. Changes to either can initiate a cascade of responses through river reaches and networks that is, at present, difficult to predict. Understanding these dynamics is necessary to interpret the fluvial record of the past and make informed management decisions into the future.
We seek contributions ranging from time scales of river and floodplain management to terrace and valley formation in the geologic past, and that incorporate diverse approaches, including field and remotely-sensed observations, numerical modeling, and physical experimentation. Whether they are forced by glacial/interglacial cycles, increased frequency of large-magnitude floods with ongoing climate change, land use, drainage, vegetation, or flow control structures, rivers are always on the move. By working across these methods and time scales, we hope to promote a conversation towards a better unified model of the underlying mechanics of river system change.
