The Sustainability and Resilience of Coastal Systems: Creating Synergy Among Federal, State, and NGO Initiatives III Posters

Session Description:
Sustainable use of coastal environments necessitates scientific advancements from interconnected studies that cover a range of disciplines in order to evaluate reciprocal feedbacks between coupled natural and human processes. For example, hydrodynamics, sediment transport, and climate change interact to shape the coastal-land margin, thus impacting ecological systems as well as socioeconomic development, decision-making, and governance of natural resources on multiple scales. A major goal of numerous federal initiatives (e.g., NSF Coastal SEES and NOAA/NOS EESLR Program) is to develop and evaluate coupled human-natural systems, so as to inform society about sustainability practices and influence governance and decision-making. This session integrates coastal environmental studies that advance fields related to natural and social interactions with the broad aim of promoting synergy among the various coastal systems research communities. Presentations are invited to cover aspects of coastal sustainability and resilience (including integrated bio-geophysical models and socioeconomic processes), and promote transdisciplinary research outcomes.
