Rock-Fluids Interactions and Their Influence on Multiphase Flow in Petroleum Reservoirs I Posters

Session Description:
The interactions between the reservoir rock and fluids determine not only the manner in which the oil, water and gas distribute within the pore space of the rock but also their flow behavior. An understanding of reservoir rock-fluids interactions is critical to enhance recovery from our petroleum resource base. The proposed session of Rock-Fluids Interactions is aimed at bringing together researchers from around the world with the aim of filling the gap in our knowledge base on the nature of rock-fluids interactions in petroleum reservoirs and their influence on multiphase flow behavior. The suggested subtopics are:

(i) The effect of rock properties (mineralogy and surface characteristics) and (ii) fluid properties (oil and brine compositions) on:

(a) rock-fluids interactions (wettability, interfacial adhesion and oil-spreading)

(b) oil-water relative permeabilities needed in field-scale reservoir simulations, and

(c) oil recovery from porous media needed to optimize recovery strategies.
