A Perfect Match: Bringing Together Models of Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics to Understand Geochemical and Petrological Observations

Session Description:
Interpreting geochemical and petrological data in terms of physical processes in the subsurface remains a great challenge in Earth Sciences. One way towards a better understanding lies in combining physical models of geodynamic processes, with thermodynamic models of equilibrium mineral assemblages and geochemical partitioning. These models may produce predictions of distinct petrological/geochemical signatures that can be tested against existing data sets, ultimately leading to more focused questions being asked of natural systems. However, building such integrated models poses significant challenges. Often, the fluid mechanical and thermodynamic model components are developed by different communities and on different platforms.

This session aims to bring together investigators working on integrating geochemistry, petrology, and geodynamics through computational methods. We encourage the submission of abstracts concerned both with the methodology of building such integrated models, as well as those using these to study links between physical processes and geochemical signals in the field and laboratory.
