Sediment dynamics across landscapes: Low-relief terrains

Session Description:
Understanding landscape evolution requires coupling sediment transport processes across high- and low-relief terrains. As sediment is transported through lowlands to the sea, subtle differences in water-surface elevation and topographic relief can govern kilometer-scale reorganization through processes such as: river channel migration and avulsion, floodplain development and deposition, vegetation growth stabilizing sediment, and coastal reworking by waves, tides, and storm surges. The dynamics of water and sediment transport through lowlands are ultimately responsible for filling sedimentary basins and building coastlines. The goal of this session is to showcase research on lowland landscapes through the investigation of active systems or interpretation of ancient sedimentary deposits. We welcome submissions that incorporate experimental, field, modeling or theoretical approaches.
