Modeling Earth Surface Processes Using Computational Fluid Dynamics Across Scales II Posters

Session Description:
A wide spectrum of temporospatial scales is embedded in the dynamics of earth surface processes, e.g., the movement of fluids, the flux of sediment and solutes, and the resulted landscape evolution. Thus, the modeling of these processes requires a multi-scale approach. From a sand grain to regional scales, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is a vital tool for our understanding of the underpinning mechanisms and their interactions. CFD has been applied to understand processes relevant to geomorphology and sediment source to sink, such as sedimentation, resuspension and turbidity currents. One of the grand challenges is to effectively integrate key processes of different scales through parameterizations, model coupling, adaptive mesh refinement, and assimilative methodology. This session welcomes contributions from researchers who use CFD to tackle earth surface process problems. Particularly, we welcome abstracts addressing how modeling at different scales can collectively improve our understanding and prediction of earth surface processes.
