Induced Seismicity in the USA and Canada: Novel Geophysical Methods and Mitigation

Session Description:
Induced seismicity associated with hydrocarbon resource development has become of widespread concern in North America over the last several years. Industry, academia, and governmental organizations strive to understand and mitigate induced earthquakes. This session is in collaboration with the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) and features the 2017 SEG Honorary Lecture “How widespread is human-induced seismicity in the USA and Canada?”. We seek abstracts on novel geophysical methods, datasets, and models that advance in-depth understanding of the occurrence and potential management of induced earthquakes in regions of active hydrocarbon exploitation. This session aims to promote interaction and collaboration between public agencies and institutions, and the private sector in an effort to share the latest advances and bridge existing gaps.
