Advances in Modeling the Dynamics of River-Floodplain Systems Under Natural and/or Anthropogenic Stressors Posters

Session Description:
The challenges in understanding the interactions between the river channels and the floodplains have reached higher levels of complexity due to non-stationary processes such as urbanization, changes in morphodynamics and long term climate change induced stressors such as sea level rise and increased frequency of extreme weather events. The evolution of the river-floodplain Systems can be attributed to the short-term stressors or shocks that can occur individually, simultaneously, successively or by a combination of events that are not themselves extreme but lead to extreme flow patterns over a floodplain when combined (e.g., storm surge and precipitation-induced high river discharge, dam failures/removal, snow melt, sediment transport, etc.). This session seeks contributions from researchers who are focused on holistic and cross-disciplinary modeling approaches to better understand the importance of the dynamic evolution of floodplain and main channels on the overall variability of water resources and floods.
