Earth Imaging from the Surface to the Upper Mantle

Session Description:
Accurate and precise three-and four-dimensional images, and their corresponding uncertainties, of the earth are central to our understanding of fundamental geological processes. Further, these images underpin future strategies for mineral and energy exploration, groundwater resource estimation and flow modelling, and monitoring of deep carbon sequestration. This cross-listed session on earth imaging aims to bring together new developments and techniques in geophysical imaging and earth modelling (including, but not limited to, seismic, gravity, magnetic, electrical and electromagnetic techniques) on scales ranging from the shallow regolith to the deeper crust and upper mantle. Special emphasis is given to new methods integrating large geophysical, geochemical and geological datasets at regional to continental scales, joint inversion, machine learning, uncertainty quantification, and the value of information in building and interpreting earth models.
