Open-Source Software in the Geosciences Posters

Session Description:
Open-source software contributions have the potential to accelerate the field. We are soliciting submissions that discuss open-source software and explore its interaction with the wider scientific community: What are motivating factors for developing open-source software? What are examples of its impacts?

There are questions about the implementation and functioning of an open-source community: How do developers engage with the community? How are new contributors/users on-boarded? What lessons can you offer to those who are involved in other open-source initiatives?

Attribution for software contributions is an immature topic that is particularly important for early-career scientists and relevant to tenure track, hiring, and proposal review panels. How should the scientific community recognize these contributions?

Wrestling with these questions is perhaps one of the main reasons why open-source products are still relatively rare; we would like to explore these in a session and panel discussion.
