Unmanned Aircraft Systems for Observing and Analyzing Coastal Systems

Session Description:
Unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) are rapidly emerging as a revolutionary means to monitor and understand coupled human-natural systems in coastal regions. This session is intended to review the state-of-the-art in the development and applications of UAS for observing and analyzing coastal and estuarine processes. Within the global context of the coastal zone, this session will address UAS associated technology and prototype development including sensors, data acquisition and management, data analysis, development of predictive tools, and integrated decision support. This session will emphasize UAS-aided coastal mapping and hazards assessment, multisource imaging and data fusion from air and land-or-sea, linkages of UAS to hydrological, geomorphological, oceanological, and ecological modeling, and all other emergent topics and technology breakthroughs in using UAS to support coastal studies.
