Statistical and Biogeochemical Advances in Interpreting Environment and Ecology from Marine Fossils II Posters

Session Description:
Biogeochemical proxies derived from fossils are increasingly vital for insights into long-term climate change and organismal responses, and the ability to analyze large datasets efficiently will greatly improve paleoclimate and paleoenvironmental reconstructions. This session highlights research involving marine fossils from two perspectives. The first is to improve our understanding of ecological and biological components of geochemical signatures in marine fossils and disentangling these from external controls. This is to both improve our understanding of traditional geochemical proxies and to develop novel proxies probing ecological, biological or evolutionary responses in the fossil record. The second is to showcase statistical techiniques as applied to fossil data sets, a common approach used by macrofossil paleontologists. These data are powerful means by which to quickly and efficiently infer paleoceanographic conditions such as water masses and ocean chemistry changes, sea level, and depositional environments.
