Session Description:
The Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) mission has provided a 15-year data record of temporal variations in the Earth’s gravity field that has become indispensable for climate-related studies.  The first continuity mission, GRACE-Follow On (GRACE-FO) is planned for launch in late 2016/early 2017.  Further, various community initiatives have explored potential mission concepts for a future satellite gravimetry mission with a focus towards improving the spatio-temporal resolution and accuracy of measuring Earth’s gravity field.  This session solicits contributions about 1) data processing strategies pertaining to current and future missions, 2) mission concepts and measurement systems for future satellite gravimetry missions, including innovative strategies for utilizing the increased precision offered by the laser interferometer on GRACE-FO, and 3) studies concerning complementary data types (GNSS observations, satellite altimetry, etc.) that are used in validation of, combination with, or replacement of (i.e. gap-filling between GRACE and GRACE-FO) satellite gravimetry observations from GRACE/GRACE-FO.
