Mass Transport and Mass Distribution in the Earth System I
Mass Transport and Mass Distribution in the Earth System I
Session ID#: 30679
Session Description:
Shrinking of ice sheets and glaciers, ocean circulation and sea level variations, river runoff, changes in precipitation, evapotranspiration, soil moisture and groundwater, post-glacial rebound and flow in the Earth mantle cause transport and re-distribution of mass. Using extremely precise sensor systems, gravity field and altimeter satellites observe these phenomena, and integration with physical modelling improves our knowledge about processes within system Earth. We invite resentations dealing with the innovative use of satellite data from GRACE, SWARM, Jason-1/2, Cryosat-2, and other missions. We encourage papers dealing with complementary data as obtained from GNSS networks, InSAR, SLR, tide gauges and ocean bottom pressure sensors, and with near-future (GRACE-FO, ICESAT-II, SWOT) and planned missions. We welcome presentations on reconstructing long time series, e.g. for climate model evaluation and for addressing the 'ocean mass / sea level budget enigma’, as well as contributions on new short-term satellite applications such as flood mapping with gravity.
