Atmospheric Measurements with New Technology, Instrumentation, and Methods II
Session ID#: 30848
Session Description:
An exciting and growing area of atmospheric science deals with developing new instruments, measurement approaches, and methodologies offering better performance or new observables such as chemical species or aerosol optical and microphysical properties. Of late, miniaturization and instrument-cost reduction have been among the major drivers for this kind of technological improvement in an effort to enable operation on more platforms. Applications for small, lower cost instruments include small unmanned aircraft/drone systems and small balloons, as well as distributed ground-based networks deploying larger numbers of sensors. Such platforms can provide increased spatial and temporal measurement resolution, of high value for atmospheric chemistry research and assessments of air quality. Here we invite presentations about new developments for all trace gas, aerosol, and meteorological measurements, for all platforms, in situ or remote, including instrumentation and techniques, technology, target species, and construction processes. New analysis approaches are also invited.
