Interactions of Air Quality and Meteorology on Local to Synoptic Scales I
Session ID#: 30952
Session Description:
Global change is driving chemistry, climate, and atmospheric composition to new regimes, threatening attainment of air quality standards globally. Poor air quality is often a result of local emissions and meteorology, however, the exact relationship is often difficult to discern due to nonlinearity and multicollinearity of individual meteorological variables, region-specific interactions resulting from complex topography or chemical regime, and complex feedback processes. Accurate predictions of future air quality in the short and long-term require that these interactions be correctly described.
This session invites abstracts that present new knowledge of the relationship between meteorology and air quality, including those using observations, regional and global models, or combination thereof to investigate past and future changes of single and multiday extremes, interannual variability, long-range transport, feedbacks associated with meteorology and air quality, and how global climate change may influence air quality.
