Methane Emissions: Moving from Measurements to Mitigation I

Session Description:
Recent measurement campaigns have vastly improved our understanding of methane emissions attributable to industrial activity. The combination of methane’s global warming potential and projected growth in natural gas use makes mitigation essential in the near future. Because decision making often happens under significant uncertainty, this session will focus on methane emissions studies that directly inform mitigation efforts. In particular, we are interested in research that leverages existing emissions measurements to identify specific mitigation needs, reconcile top-down and bottom-up emissions data, harmonize and quantify super-emitters, develop best practices, and formulate evidence-informed approaches to mitigation policy. In this regard, we solicit presentations that report on novel leak-detection methods and technology-equivalence demonstrations, cost-effective leak detection and repair (LDAR) practices, as well as regulatory and policy frameworks for emissions mitigation and monitoring. We are also interested in new field studies that report data from previously missing or poorly characterized sources in the literature.
