T51H:
Alpine-Mediterranean Investigations: Geology, Geophysics, and Geochemistry

Submit an Abstract to this Session

Session ID#: 31276

Session Description:
The Alpine-Mediterranean region represents a unique opportunity to investigate lithosphere deformations, in an intricate interplay of plate subduction, collision, and back-arc extension. Active research for this region ranges from the microscopic scale to the lithosphere and upper mantle, addressing fundamental issues like the vertical and horizontal tectonics including surface uplift/subsidence, controls on seismicity, causes of the rich variety of magmatic and volcanic products, and of metamorphism.

In this session we intend to bring different viewpoints together on the evolution of the west, central, and east Mediterranean, the Alps, Anatolia, and Iranian plateau. We invite contributions from all disciplines and scales in the earth sciences including, but not limited to, field geology, geochemistry, petrology, geophysical methods, seismology, sedimentology, geodynamic modeling, geodesy, and marine geology.
