T31E:
Multidisciplinary Approaches to Outstanding Questions in Andean Tectonics
Submit an Abstract to this Session
Session ID#: 31292
Session Description:
The Andes are linked to diverse issues that include lithosphere through surface interactions, seismic hazards, biotic diversity, resources, and global climate. However, debate persists regarding the temporal and spatial patterns of orogenesis. Resolving the interactions among subduction geometries, inherited crustal architecture, deformation, arc volcanism, basin subsidence, and surface uplift requires consideration of multiple subdisciplines. We invite contributions from geophysics, geochemistry, geochronology, geomorphology, structural geology, stratigraphy, and geodynamic modeling that investigate the long-term and/or along-strike variation and evolution of the Andean margin. We are particularly interested in studies that integrate varied or complementary datasets, and examine or expand concepts generated from single-discipline datasets. We also encourage contributions that leverage a growing multidisciplinary community interest in developing a subduction zone 4D initiative to address outstanding questions in Andean tectonics and convergent margin geodynamics.
