Session Description:
(joint session with "waves and turbulence")
This session brings together researchers interested in all aspects of fluid mechanics of the Earth and planets, including oceans, atmospheres and interiors. Fluid motion in the different planetary layers involves many of the same basic mechanisms such as waves, vortices, instabilities and turbulence. An exchange of knowledge from the different communities will be mutually beneficial to all. In this view, observational, experimental, theoretical and numerical studies of rotating, stratified, convecting and/or conductive fluids of general interest to geophysicists are welcome.
